Preston, Minnesota USA
Who are you and what do you do?
'My name is Gabby Kinneberg. I am the Tourism and Chamber of Commerce Director for the City of Preston, Minnesota.'
Why do you choose to live in Preston?
'I didn't really have a choice as I was born and raised here. I grew up on a dairy farm just outside of Preston. My parents bought a pizza place in Preston when I was in 2nd grade. I worked there for almost twenty years, which meant I spent most of my time growing up in Preston. I went to college in a town about forty-five minutes away and lived just twenty minutes away during that time.
My husband is also from Preston so once we finished college we both knew Preston would be our home. My husband works for the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery which is also located on the edge of Preston. We love the outdoors and being so close to our family.'
What's your favourite place in Preston and why?
'My favourite place is the Root River and the in-town trail that winds through Preston next to it. It's beautiful and so peaceful. Sometimes you can't believe the beauty that is right in your backyard.'
What is Preston proud of?
'Preston is proud of it's unique cold water trout streams for fishing. We were named Minnesota's Trout Capital by Minnesota Legislature. Coming in at a close second is the fact that we pride ourselves in being a veteran friendly community. We are home to one of the top state veterans cemeteries in the United States and we are home to a very special veteran population.'
Tell us something about Preston that people won't know?
'The railroad once went through Preston. Now, the railroad bed is home to paved trails which are mostly used for cycling. Preston is connected to 60+ miles of paved state trails. The Trailhead, where you can begin your journey on the state trails, houses a historic railroad campus which includes a large Milwaukee Grain Elevator, a caboose, a boxcar and a motor car.'
