Nicole

Preston, Kent UK

Who are you and what do you do?
'My name is Nicole Huggins. During wedding season I am a wedding videographer. I have been doing this for two years and absolutely love capturing such a special day for wonderful people and turning it into a beautiful piece of film for them to bring back all those memories. Out of wedding season, my partner and I like to travel. In 2018 we rode our motorcycles for 24,000 miles from Alaska to Argentina (I think I may be the youngest female to ever do this), and last year we traversed Southern Africa in a Toyota Hilux. Due to the Covid pandemic, there has been a lack of weddings so I have picked up a part-time job in Sainsburys where I clock in at 4am to pack the online shopping orders.'

Why do you choose to live in Preston?
'I have lived in Preston twice. The first time was with my mother for a very short while when I was thirteen or so, but we had to move to a bigger house. Then I returned to Preston three years ago when I moved in with my partner who has lived here for twenty-seven years.'

What's your favourite place in Preston and why?
'Is it boring to say my favourite place in Preston is my home? My boyfriend built it himself on a piece of arable farmland which he then rewilded, including planting woodland and creating a lake.'

What is Preston proud of?
'Preston is proud of its tight community. We have many elderly people in the village and many other villagers cook for them, garden for them, shop for them, drive them into town and even walk them to the pub and back. We also have a very active village society and a friendly pub.'

Tell us something about Preston that people won't know?
'My boyfriend believes that the first ever Roman road runs through Preston (Kent). He did a lot of research and investigating himself, and there is evidence which has certainly convinced me. He is at the stage where he has to secure a grant to perform a dig in order to prove the theory. It will be a very exciting discovery for many people.'
